The courses
Classes take place from Mon through Fri, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30. Afternoons (from 2 to 6 p.m.)
are devoted to practice with exercises assigned by the instructor and for personal research.
Fees include materials and the cost of firing one piece per day. A supplement will be requested
for firing additional pieces, based on their quantity and weight. Fired pieces may be
shipped to at a later date (at the student's expense).
Lodging
Lodging at Terres Est-Ouest, in shared rooms with bath, is 15 € per person, per night. Lodging
is possible for non potting companions. Supplement per night for a private room: 12 €
Participants who stay at Terres Est-Ouest have the kitchen at their disposal for meal preparation.
Participants may arrive either the day the class begins or the evening before, and may leave either
on the last day of class or the following morning.
In a Bed & Breakfast (in Lain, Tel. 03.86.45.20.39) : Private, single room, 27,44 € per night;
double room 35,06 €, breakfast included.
Bed & Breakfast (in Sementron, 3 Km from Lain, Tel. 03.86.74.36.31) :
Double room 25,92 €, without breakfast
En Camping (in Saints en Puisaye, 5 Km from Lain, Tel. 03.86.45.55.72) : Deux personnes, per night, 3.66 €.
En Hotel (in Druyes-les-Belles-Fontaines, 11 Km from Lain, Tel. 03.86.41.55.14).
Restaurants : Several (5 to 20 Km from Lain).
Participants not lodging at Terres Est-Ouest have the kitchen at their disposal for preparing noon meals.
Lain
is a small village lost among the hills of Burgundy.
Historical and cultural sites in the area are plentiful Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye,
famous for its pottery studios, Druyes-les-Belles- Fontaines and its medieval
castle; Auxerre' s Cathedral and earthenware museum.

MINI-KILN

Individual construction of a small portable kiln, a very old Japanese invention. Very fashionable in Japan. 1st day: everybody builds his own mini-kiln. 2nd and 3rd days: making objects and drying them. 4th day: bisque firing of kilns and pieces (paper firing), 5th day: wood firing of the kilns.

SHAPING FORMS (SCULPTURE)

GLAZING CLASS
With Alain Valtat
Glazing are a subtle intercourse between elements. The fire plays a fundamental role in the associations, disclosures, transformations… that take place in the heart of the materials. Intensive course, slide presentations, construction of pieces, participants will fire four times in a gaz firing kiln, daily evaluation of results.

Terres Est-Ouest está situada en una región
célebre por sus tradiciones alfareras y la calidad de sus arcillas. Dauphine
Scalbert, su fundadora, es una experta en cerámica coreana y japonesa,
que dedicó veinte años a la práctica y al estudio de técnicas
de producción artesanal en Europa, Corea, Japón y Latino América.
Terres Est-Ouest (Burgondy, France)
Terres Est-Ouest is at home in a region world-famous
for its pottery. The founder, Dauphine Scalbert, is a recognised expert in Korean
and Japanese ceramics, with 20 years experience studying and working on traditional
ceramics in Europe, Korea, Japan and Latin America. In 1994 she came back to
France and installed her studio at Lain (Burgondy).
